which is the GREATER Rock band: The redhot chilli peppers or Linkin park

This is about two great Rock bands, both great in their own respect, but haven't you ever wondered which of the two is thee better Rock band? If so, then you are definitely walking down my alley.
Both bands do rock and have an arsenal of hits that could send chills down any avid rock fan's spine.
And yes, one band is slightly older, who am i kidding, The redhot chilli peppers are way older and have been around for quit a while, since the 80s. Linkin park on the other hand were started up in the mid 90s and were thrust into the media spot light with their all conquering album "The hybrid theory." After that it was life in the fast lane for Linkin park. Enough of that, lets get down to business, shall we!

The mark of any great band, is its ability to draw out an insane number of fans, lead them on merry dance through the streets singing their favorite tunes and leaving them wanting more, more and more.
These two bands couldn't be anymore different, one is a funk band and the other is a hard rock band that dabbles in other creative ventures like electronica, metal, and other stuff.

Looking at the work of both of these great bands,  they all have great work but who has better? Starting with the peppers, they have been around for quit a while and have a larger array of songs to show for it, and thus have an illustrious award filled career, most notably a number of Grammy wins for works such as "scar tissue,"  "dani california," and their album "stadium  Arcadium." Aside from these they have loads of other great songs and albums such their 1999 album "californication" which is clearly one of rock music's finest albums. It may not make the top 10, 20 or 30, but it still makes my list of top 100 greatest rock albums.
Linkin park also have loads of great music to match the chilli peppers,  such as thee all conquering, "Numb," that every teen in the early 2000's could relate to. It may not have bagged a grammy but it was one hell of a song. Linkin park are also not shy in the grammy department, they do have two grammys most notably for their hard rock song "crawling" off their killer album "the hybrid theory," which does also make my list of 100 greatest albums. Just like californication, it has some of linkin park's finest work. It has songs like,  "closer to edge,"  "pushing me away," and other great songs. Linkin also had another great album called "meteora," which had great songs like "in the end." which still rock today. So when it comes down to albums and songs,  I'd say the chilli peppers slightly edge out Linkin park. The combo of californication and stadium archadium outmatches Linkin parks meteora and the hybrid theory. Though in popularity, both linkin park albums stand out.

Now when we get to quality and discard quantity, this where the concept of a band's prowess comes in.
Lets talk front-men, the Red hot chilli peppers do have a great front-man in Anthony kiedis, he is talented and he brings out the funk element in his singing, but he's no Chester Bennington, with a signature singing style synonymous to the vocal work of a certain heavy metal God whose name I shall keep to myself, Chester's vocal prowess distinguishes him from the crop of average front-men. Don't taking it away from Anthony, he may be no Chris Cornell, but he sure is great at what he does.

Lets talk about guitars, and more importantly lead and rhythm, linkin park have more than one guitarist, so they can divide guitar duties into having a lead guitarist and also having a rhythm guitarist. This in no way makes their sound better than that of the chilli peppers guitar monster, John Frusciante, who is listed as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, he may not be Keith Richards or Stevie Ray Vaughan, but he certainly deserves to be mentioned among the great guitar heroes of his generation. I can even go on to say that his guitar work is so good, it puts both linkin park guitarists to shame. His most notable guitar moments are the riff work on songs like “give it away,” “other side,” “scar tissue,” and guitar solos on “suck my kiss,” “scar tissue,” “dani California,” and others. And yes his solo on Dani California has a Jimi Hendrix-esque feel to it.

When we talk bass, Redhot chilli peppers flea, is without a doubt one of the finest bassists of all time. Respected for his fingering and slapping style plus timeless bass work like the opening bass riff on  “higher ground,” and the bass work on “give it away." Flea is quite the accomplished bassist, and is also regarded by the famous Rolling stones magazine as one of the top 10 greatest bassists of all time, along with legends like led zeppelin’s John paul Jones and The beatles Sir Paul McCartney.
Well I believe mentioning the linkin park bassist after mentioning Flea would be disrespectful. so i wont

When we talk drums, linkin park Drummer Rob Bourdon is a classy drummer, not among the finest, but still a good drummer, the chilli peppers drummer Chad Smith is a seasoned veteran  who aside from looking like Will Ferrell's twin is an accomplished drummer and is surely a better drummer than Rob

But the most important part about what makes a band great is The fans, yes the fans. Putting all that technical crap aside, both band command a large fan following, though one is um er er, how should I put it, “clearly’ bigger. Linkin park has an overwhelmingly large fan base, and their loyalty is a thing of rock n roll beauty. They are so loyal, that when the band makes crappy albums like “a thousand suns” and “the living things,” they still love and support them, now that’s loyalty. The chilli peppers also have an insanely large fan base, though obviously not as large linkin park's fans base.

All in all, without bias, I believe the peppers to be thee greater Rock band, but this is just my opinion, so who do “You” think is the better rock band?

For you listening pleasure i recommend these definitive songs by both bands

in the end

  1. Well penned article, very succinct too. RHCP tramples all over Linkin Park. They're really isn't much of a comparison as you eloquently stated it. RHCP is one band that has had a full blown roller coaster ride. With Frusciante's struggles with drugs & their rebirth.
